30 May 2008: The Merger Working Group has produced a roadmap for the merger proposal, to communicate to members the timeline and process for development of the merger proposal. The roadmap is available in the documents section below.

Background

Informal discussions started in early 2007 on a possible merger of the Australian Map Circle (AMC) and New Zealand Map Society (NZMS).

AMC 2008 AGM resolution – Wed 13 Feb 2008
The membership agree that the Executive begin discussions with the NZ Map Society on the proposal, and prepare a proposal for consideration by the membership. A special postal/electronic vote may be held following the distribution of that report.

NZMS 2008 AGM resolution – Wed 13 Feb 2008
… the NZMS agrees in principle to a merger with the AMC. The NZMS Committee will be responsible for negotiating with the AMC the form of the new organisation and any conditions of the merger.

A working group comprising John Cain (AMC), Brian Marshall (NZMS), John Robson (NZMS) and Martin Woods (AMC) has been tasked with developing a “proposal” to be put to members of AMC and NZMS in the second half of 2008.
